Committees

The Driftwood Historical Conservation Society is powered by the passion, time, and talents of our members. Our committees help guide the work we do to preserve Driftwood’s natural beauty, protect its historic character, and strengthen our sense of community. Below, you’ll find a list of our active committees, each with its own focus and opportunities to contribute.

Residents Advisory Panel (RAP) The Residents Advisory Panel (“RAP”) was formed pursuant to the Bylaws of Driftwood HCS. Members of the RAP who have served more than one full year are eligible for nomination as a Board Member of Driftwood HCS. The powers and duties of the RAP are to:

  • Nominate and vote on Directors as provided in the Bylaws.
  • Vote on major decisions contemplated by the Board and provide the voting results and other input regarding such major decisions to the Board
  • Gather information and input from members of Driftwood HCS and the Onion Creek Valley community regarding issues provided to the RAP by the Board.
  • Assist the Board by gathering input from members of Driftwood HCS and the Onion Creek Valley community to identify issues pertinent to Driftwood HCS.
  • Form “work groups” to perform tasks as directed by the Board.
  • Generally, promote membership in Driftwood HCS and attendance at the general meetings of Driftwood HCS. Serve as a liaison to the various representative groups involved and interested in the Onion Creek Valley, including without limitation residents, businesses, landowners, and organizations.

Roads Advisory Group The Roads Engagement Committee is responsible for supporting Driftwood HCS by maintaining awareness of road development issues involving the Driftwood and Onion Creek Valley area. The Committee will represent emerging issues to the Board and represent the Board and Driftwood HCS in various related venues.

Membership Committee The Membership Committee is responsible for sustaining and growing the Driftwood HCS membership. This includes developing strategies and identifying the resources needed to attract new members. The committee also ensures that new members are welcomed and introduced to the organization, current members are up to date on their dues, and all membership records are accurate and well-maintained.

Beautification Committee The Beautification Committee works to preserve and enhance the rural beauty of Driftwood and the Onion Creek Valley. The committee identifies improvement opportunities that align with the Driftwood HCS mission and ensures shared responsibility for setting priorities and carrying out projects. Key efforts include quarterly participation in the Texas Adopt-A-Highway Program and the completion and upkeep of the Driftwood Nature Preserve.

Development Committee The Development Committee is responsible for building relationships and partnerships within the community to help support the mission of Driftwood HCS. This committee ensures Driftwood HCS has the funding needed for day-to-day operations, special events, fundraising efforts, and new opportunities as they arise.

Historical Committee The purpose of the Historical Committee is to research and preserve the history of Driftwood. This includes reaching out to families of both past and present residents to request documents, photographs, and other historical materials. The committee is responsible for organizing and storing this information in a way that allows for public access and retrieval.

Festival Committee The Festival Committee is responsible for planning and executing the annual Driftwood Heritage Festival. The goal of the festival is to support the mission and vision of Driftwood HCS by fostering connections among members and the broader Driftwood community, highlighting the Driftwood identity, and strengthening the shared sense of community and belonging.

Communications Committee The Communications Committee is responsible for implementing a consistent communications strategy that builds trust, awareness, and excitement around Driftwood HCS and its mission. Key communication goals include raising awareness of Driftwood HCS and its impact, sharing timely and accurate updates with members and the public, addressing the information needs of stakeholders and donors, promoting a clear and consistent brand image, and recognizing donor support while demonstrating responsible stewardship.

Community Center Operations The Community Center Operations Committee is responsible for the care and maintenance of the DHCS community center. This includes managing rentals, cleaning, and general maintenance of the facility.

Community Engagement Committee The Community Engagement Committee (CEC) supports Driftwood HCS by fostering a strong sense of community and belonging among members. The committee plans and organizes a variety of enjoyable events and activities that bring people together and encourage meaningful social connections. Its goal is to strengthen camaraderie and fellowship throughout the Driftwood HCS membership.

Strategic Planning Committee The Strategic Planning Committee leads the process of identifying Driftwood HCS’s long-term goals, outlining the strategies to achieve them, and establishing a system to monitor progress over time. This work results in a dynamic strategic plan that serves as a guiding roadmap for the organization’s ongoing growth and direction.
